Frank Caprio died on Wednesday, and a post announcing his passing said, “May we all strive to bring a little more compassion into the world, just as he did every day.”

A pancreatic cancer diagnosis has led Judge Frank Caprio to receive supportive letters from around the world since he has shared his compassion in the courtroom for over 35 years.

Loved Rhode Island Judge Frank Caprio has passed away after receiving an illness related to cancer by posts on his social media accounts.

The family confirmed the death of his father via NBC station WJAR the following Wednesday one day after he had asked his the followers of an inpatient bed to pray for prayers.

“Unfortunately, I’ve had a setback, I’m back in the hospital now, and I’m coming to you again asking you to remember me in your prayers once more,” Caprio spoke of an earlier bout of pancreatic cancer..

Gov. Dan McKee ordered that Rhode Island flags be flown at half-staff throughout the day of his burial, calling Caprio an “treasure” who connected with people as “a symbol of empathy on the bench, showing us what is possible when justice is tempered with humanity.”

Frank Caprio earned the name “the nicest judge in the world” due to his time on the Emmy-nominated series “Caught in Providence” and his social media presence, which had millions of followers.

“He will be remembered not only as a respected judge, but as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. His legacy lives on in the countless acts of kindness he inspired,” the announcement of his death read. “In his honor, may we each strive to bring a little more compassion into the world — just as he did every day.”
